On the 21st of September shall take effect, provisionally, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between EU and Canada.

This agreement will only take effect on a permanent basis when all EU State Members have ratified it.

The Direção Geral das Atividades Económicas includes in the European Union Market Access Data Base MADB (http://madb.europa.eu/madb/fta_canada.htm) information regarding the implementation of the agreement.

From the 1st of January 2018, European companies can only profit from this preferential tariff treatment, if they are registered in the certification of merchandising origin system, called Registered Exporter System (REX).

This registration should be obtained at the Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira.
